About MusiCompanion
Last updated: 8 October 2026
MusiCompanion is the everyday practice companion for musicians, from beginner students to professionals. It brings together in a single app everything the student needs to practise: tuning, keeping time, working on intonation, keeping track of practice and sending it to the teacher, and better understanding the music they play.
For the professional, it is a time-saving tool that brings together in one place historical pitches and temperaments, a tuner, help with intonation, information on composers and guidance on 17th- and 18th-century ornamentation, as well as a section dedicated to historical instruments.
Designed by concert performers and teachers, it gives a special place to early music: historical pitches and temperaments, and a tool to determine the pitch and natural temperament of historical wind instruments.
What makes MusiCompanion different
- A tuner that speaks the language of early music: every pitch from 380 to 460 Hz and the historical temperaments (Vallotti, Kirnberger III, Werckmeister III, Bach-Kellner, Young, meantone…), with their reference key.
- My instruments and my temperaments: up to 15 instruments saved with their pitch and temperament, and up to 15 personal temperaments set note by note.
- The historical winds assistant: play a few notes, and the app determines the pitch and natural temperament of your historical wind instrument.
- Truly in-tune drones: a real recorded piano and an organ, retuned to the chosen pitch and temperament, short or sustained, to work on the intonation of intervals and on ear training.
- A practice log to share: practice-session stopwatch recorded automatically in the calendar, comments dictated by voice, audio recordings, and sending your work to your teacher by e-mail or WhatsApp.
- To understand what you play: the main rhythmic cells (from 2/4 to 12/8) played with the beat, with tests, composers from the Renaissance to the 20th century, and ornament tables of the 17th and 18th centuries with their original treatise.
The app’s tools
Play
Tuner: automatic microphone, stretched octaves, attack ignored for plucked strings.
Metronome: time signatures from 1/1 to 12/8, click strength and pitch. Up to 30 saved tempos and time signatures, to find the speed of the pieces you are working on in a moment. With “Tap tempo”, you tap the tempo you want for a piece and the metronome finds the speed straight away.
Drones & Sounds: piano or organ, every note, several notes at once.
My progress
Stopwatch: practice-session and piece stopwatches, always visible at the bottom left of the menu.
My practice / Calendar / Send: calendar, weekly and monthly summaries, daily comments, sending to the teacher.
My recordings: up to 15 recordings, to rename, keep and listen back to.
Explore
Rhythms / Keys: rhythmic cells from 2/4 to 12/8, played with the beat, and reading tests; note values (from the whole note to the sixteenth); intervals on a piano, with the semitones; keys and their key signatures (major and relative minor).
Composers: from the Renaissance to the 20th century (teachers, students, posts).
Ornaments: 17th- and 18th-century ornament tables with their original treatise.
My instruments
My instruments: up to 15 instruments and presets, with their pitch and temperament.
Sing in tune: vocal range test, sung solfège (the microphone tells you if the note is in tune) and vocal warm-ups accompanied on the piano.
Historical winds assistant: determine the pitch and natural temperament of your historical wind instrument.
Settings
Language, account, backups, my temperaments, and a pro or student mode that hides the pages you don’t need.
The app is available in French, Italian, English and German. It works offline and can be installed on the home screen of your phone, tablet or computer. Your practice log and recordings stay on your device.
For parents
MusiCompanion is a tool to put in your child’s hands to encourage regular practice: they see their sessions add up day after day, record and listen to themselves, and can send their work to their teacher.
An old phone, even without a SIM card or a plan, works very well: you only need a Wi-Fi connection when installing it.
With or without Internet
An Internet connection (Wi-Fi is enough) is needed only once, to open the app and install it on the home screen. It is then stored entirely on the device and works offline afterwards.
Without Internet, everything essential works: tuner, metronome, drones and sounds, rhythms and keys, composers, my instruments, stopwatch, calendar, written comments, recordings and backups. Once activated, the Complete version stays active offline.
An Internet connection is needed to:
- install the app and receive updates (they arrive at the next connection);
- sign in to your account, buy or manage a subscription;
- send your work by e-mail or WhatsApp (an e-mail prepared offline is sent at the next connection);
- dictate comments: on most phones, dictation goes through the Internet (you can always type them);
- open the “Sources” links on the composer pages.
For a device that stays offline, saving a backup file (Settings › Backups) lets you transfer the work to another device, for example with a cable.
Compatible phones and tablets
- Android: Android 8 or newer, with an up-to-date Chrome browser (version 111 or later). Since Chrome 139, Chrome updates require Android 10 or later.
- iPhone and iPad: iPhone 8, iPhone X, iPhone SE (2nd generation) or newer, with iOS 16.2 or later.
- Processor and memory: a quad-core processor and 2 GB of RAM are enough (most phones sold since 2018). On a slower device, the tuner may react a little more slowly.
- A working microphone (tuner, recordings) and a speaker or headphones (metronome, drones).
On an older device, the app may open, but some colours, the microphone or the sounds may not work properly.
